Abstract:

This study investigated the effects of electrical conductivity(EC)and nutrient content on the seed germination index(GI)of 60 organic fertilizer products collected from different regions of Zhejiang Province. The results showed that the GI non-conformance rate of the tested organic fertilizers was high. Elevated EC levels reduced GI pass rates, with the highest GI pass rate(100%)achieved when EC was below 5 mS·cm-1. High nitrogen and high potassium contents markedly affected GI,and the optimal GI pass rates and mean GI values were observed when total nitrogen content ranged from 1.22% to <3.00%,total phosphorus content from 2.00% to <3.00%,and total potassium content from 1.18% to <3.00%. The number of filter paper discs had little impact on seed germination rate and GI,whereas 5 mL of extraction solution was more suitable for GI determination in the NY/T 525-2021 Organic Fertilizers standard. The study demonstrates that reducing the EC of the extraction solution, optimizing the nutrient ratios, and decreasing the extraction solution volume can effectively increase GI.
