Abstract:

To investigate the effects of calcium and boron on fruit quality and storage tolerance of Chinese bayberry, the cultivars Biqizhong and Dongkui were used as test materials, and foliar sprays of boron and calcium were applied separately during fruit development, with water spray as the control. The external and internal quality indicators of fruits at the color-turning stage and the mature stage were measured. The results showed that both exogenous boron and calcium treatments improved fruit quality. Boron treatment increased soluble sugar content at the color-turning stage, reduced titratable acidity, and significantly (p<0.05)increased amino acid content at the mature stage. Calcium treatment significantly increased fruit firmness, total soluble solids content, and anthocyanin content, with particularly prominent effects on improving fruit color and firmness. Overall, both calcium and boron improved the internal quality of Chinese bayberry fruits, but calcium showed better effects on improving storage tolerance. In conclusion, application of calcium and boron during the fruit stage can effectively improve Chinese bayberry fruit quality and has practical value for production. This study provides a theoretical basis for quality regulation and storage tolerance improvement in Chinese bayberry cultivation management.
