Abstract:

Flowering phenology is a critical characteristic of ornamental peonies. Investigating the growth patterns of flowering characteristics across different peony varieties and their relationships with environmental factors can provide valuable insights for precise flowering period regulation, identification of unique germplasm resources, and targeted breeding programs. This study employed 29 ornamental peony varieties from the Luoyang National Peony Germplasm Resource Garden as experimental materials, investigating their flowering characteristics and measuring data on petal traits and meteorological factors during flowering periods. The results showed that the flowering period of the tested peony varieties ranged from 7 to 13 days, with a coefficient of variation of 17.43%. Correlation analysis indicated that flowering duration exhibited a highly significant (p<0.01) positive correlationwith single-branch flower formation rate and petal thickness;a highly significant negative correlation with light intensity and daily maximum temperature;a significant (p<0.05) negative correlation with daily average temperature;while no significant correlations were observed with indicators such as flower color, flower shape, petal number,or flower diameter. The results of this study provided valuable references for resource evaluation of ornamental peony varieties, precise regulation of flowering periods, identification of unique germplasm resources, and targeted breeding.
