Abstract:

To address the technical bottleneck of water scarcity and the coordinated improvement of high yield and quality in the Xinjiang arid region, this study compared the combined effects of two mainstream drip tape configurations and two planting patterns, and clarified their regulatory effects on cotton growth, yield, quality, and irrigation water use efficiency, aiming to provide a theoretical basis for efficient cotton cultivation in the region. Using side-labyrinth and built-in patch drip tapes as materials, two planting patterns(1 film with 6 rows and 3 tapes, and 1 film with 3 rows and 3 tapes)were set up,with a total of 4 combined treatments(T1-T4). The results showed that T4(built-in patch drip tape + 1 film with 3 rows and 3 tapes)had the best individual plant growth, with the highest plant height and number of fruit branches, and a higher proportion of buds and bolls at the boll-opening stage;however, the harvest plant density was only 156 400 plants per hectare, resulting in relatively low seed cotton and lint yields. T3(built-in patch drip tape + 1 film with 6 rows and 3 tapes)had a harvest density of 182 600 plants per hectare, achieving the best coordination between population and individuals, and ranked first in seed cotton yield(7 390.52 kg·hm-2),lint yield(3 274.03 kg·hm-2),and irrigation water use efficiency(1.64 kg·m-3);it also exhibited the best comprehensive fiber quality, with fiber length of 29.82 mm,good breaking strength, and Micronaire value. The yields and fiber qualities of T1 and T2 were relatively lower. In conclusion,T3 can achieve coordinated improvement of high yield, quality, and water use efficiency in cotton fields with sandy loam soil in southern Xinjiang, and is recommended as the main configuration mode. T4,with high individual plant production potential,is suitable for targeted high-quality cotton production or sparse planting scenarios.
