Study on the flood resistance of three new and excellent woody ornamental plants

Abstract:

Three new and excellent woody ornamental plants, including Hibiscus hamabo, Callistemon citrinus, and Vitex agnus-castus, were studied. Their growth performance was observed during a 30 day flooding cycle through artificial flooding treatment, artificial waterlogging treatment, and normal watering treatment. The photosynthetic characteristics and biochemical indicators of their leaves were measured. The results showed that Hibiscus hamabo and Callistemon citrinus had strong flood resistance, followed by Vitex agnus-castus. All three tree species can be used as flood resistant tree species for urban green spaces, and can be applied to sponge city construction such as rain gardens, rain wetlands, and waterfront green belts. The results can provide reference for the promotion and application of high-quality flood resistant tree species in Ningbo City.
