Abstract:

Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitors are widely found in nature and consist of one or more Kunitz domains, which are usually composed of two α-helices, a pair of antiparallel β-pleated sheets, a β-turn, and two loops, with 2-3 conserved disulfide bonds. These proteins containing Kunitz domains tightly bind to serine proteases in a substrate-like manner, effectively blocking the active site of the enzyme and inhibiting its activity. This article reviewd the important role of these inhibitors in anti-tumor, anti-coagulation, anti-inflammation, anti-microbial and so on.
