Effects of different colored fully biodegradable mulches on early-spring loose-curd cauliflower production in Jiashan

Abstract:

To investigate the effects of different colored fully biodegradable mulches on early-spring loose-curd cauliflower production in Jiashan,a field trial was conducted using four types of biodegradable mulches(white,black,brown,and black-white dual-color)alongside black conventional polyethylene(PE)mulch and an unmulched control. The results showed that all mulching treatments shortened the growth period compared with the control. The white biodegradable mulch exhibited the most pronounced effect,reducing the total growth period to 127.7 days,7.6 days significantly(p0.05)shorter than the unmulched control(135.3 days). Moreover,the yield was significantly higher than other treatments except for the black-white dual-color fully biodegradable mulch,demonstrating both environmental sustainability and agronomic efficiency. Therefore,white fully biodegradable mulch is recommended for early-spring loose-curd cauliflower production in Jiashan.
