Abstract:

Visible implant elastomer(VIE) has become an important tool in aquatic animal identification and monitoring, fishery stock enhancement, and resource assessment. This paper introduces the VIE technique and its marking methods, compares the differences between VIE and other internal marking techniques, reviews its marking effectiveness in aquatic animals including fish, shrimp and crabs, and soft-shelled turtles,as well as its effects on survival and growth, and its application outcomes in individual identification, population migration monitoring, and stock enhancement effectiveness evaluation. It also addresses issues such as fluctuations in mark retention rates and operational difficulties in marking small-sized individuals, and proposes optimization suggestions from three aspects, including material improvement, technical integration, and standardized operation, with the aim of providing a reference for further related research.
