Abstract:

To explore the optimal sowing date and density for developing a new released wheat variety Ningfengmai No. 6 in northern region of Zhejiang,a two-factor split-plot experiment was conducted, with sowing date as the main plot [November 19(suitable sowing,S1)and December 4(late sowing,S2)] and sowing density as the sub-plot [3.6 million grains per hectare (D1),4.5 million grains per hectare (D2),5.4 million grains per hectare (D3),and 6.3 million grains per hectare (D4)]. The effects of sowing date and sowing density on dry matter accumulation, translocation and yield of Ningfengmai No.6 were investigated. The results showed that compared with suitable sowing, late sowing decreased the average dry matter weight per stem at jointing, heading and maturity stages by 28.95%,11.16% and 6.38%,respectively.The average dry matter accumulation before and after anthesis decreased by 1 635.61 kg·hm-2 and 998.82 kg·hm-2,respectively,which finally reduced the average actual yield by 623.50 kg·hm-2. Under the S1 treatment, with the increase of sowing density, the dry matter accumulation before anthesis and its translocation, dry matter accumulation after anthesis, actual yield, and spike number showed a trend of initial increase followed by a subsequent decrease, with a peak at D3 treatment. Under the S2 treatment, the dry matter accumulation before anthesis, translocation and its contribution to grains, theoretical yield and spike number were continuously increased with rising sowing density, while the 1 000-grain weight decreased gradually. The actual yield was also the highest in the D3 treatment(4 937.29 kg·hm-2),which was 693.89 kg·hm-2 lower than that of the S1 treatment(5 631.18 kg·hm-2). Under late sowing conditions, increasing sowing density can effectively improve dry matter accumulation before anthesis, dry matter translocation and its contribution rate to grains of wheat. In conclusion, under suitable sowing date(November 19 th)and suitable density(5.4 million grains per hectare)conditions, dry matter accumulation, distribution, and yield components of Ningfengmai No. 6 were well coordinated, which woule be beneficial for the full realization of its yield potential in northern Zhejiang Province or similar ecological regions.
