Abstract:

To study the physiological status of grafted watermelon seedlings under cadmium stress and analyze the resistance of watermelon to heavy metals by grafting different rootstocks, wild watermelon rootstock YZ1 and Chinese pumpkin rootstock SZ111 were grafted with Nabit (NBT). A 0.6 mg·L-1 CdCl2 solution was used for hydroponic treatment. The results showed that compared with the control group, the fresh weight of both aboveground and underground parts in the treatment groups of each grafting combination was extremely significantly reduced. In terms of agronomic traits, the treatment groups of YZ1/NBT and NBT showed a more significant decrease compared with the control group, while the treatment group of SZ111/NBT had a smaller difference compared with the control group. In terms of MDA content, the difference between the treatment group and the control group of SZ111/NBT was smaller than the other two grafting combinations. In terms of GA3 and IAA content in the roots, the difference between the treatment group and the control group of SZ111/NBT was greater than that between the treatment group and the control group of YZ1/NBT, indicating that when SZ111 was used as a rootstock, it promoted an extremely significantly increase in GA3 content and an decrease in IAA content to reduce cell wall plasticity and reduce Cd transport into the plant. Therefore, SZ111/NBT is relatively less affected by Cd and can be used as a rootstock for watermelon cultivation in Cd contaminated areas. YZ1 is greatly affected by Cd when used as a rootstock. It is not recommended to plant and use it in Cd polluted areas.
